The full 'Virtual Voyager' expansion pack (remember those?!) is included with the base Elite Force 1 package. If you'd like to geek out even further, worry not. Some of these are good-ish (Hidden Evil) and some are trash, but its a nice release all the same.
Hope this post brings back some memories for people.Įlite Force 1 and 2 are the cream of the crop here, but they're releasing on GOG alongside Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Star Trek: Starfleet Command III, Star Trek: Away Team, Star Trek: Armada and Armada II, and the (mostly) fondly-remembered Star Trek: Hidden Evil. There's also a dedicated Discord for people who want to play MP with a virtual LAN. Even the MP mode with bots holds up rather well, 21 years after the fact. The Elite Force games were built on a weird version of the Quake engine and are some damn nice, early-aughts, FPS games. These games hold up even if you're not into Star Trek, but damn, it helps if you are (minutiae like the Borg modulating their shield frequencies to become immune to certain beam weapons will confuse non-fans, etc.). I went from DOOM to Elite Force and had my mind blown, though it helps I was a massive Star Trek kid at the time.
Personally, I played the hell out of DOOM and then took a hiatus from gaming as a young'un due to my family PC not being updated for about a decade. These games' releases are a nice surprise for me, and hopefully others.
